On October 13th, Dr. h.c. Mania Feilcke-Dierck, President of the Ambassadors Club and H.E. Anne-Marie Descôtes, Ambassador of France, invited to the ambassador’s residence on Pariser Platz. The occasion was the second edition of the Ambassadors Club’s new series of events entitled “Women in Politics and Diplomacy”.
The Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Michelle Müntefering MP, was able to be won as a guest speaker. In a very engaging speech, she pointed out the successes of women in politics and diplomacy worldwide. But there is still a lot to do. In the Foreign Office, too, only one in five ambassador positions is currently occupied by a woman. She called on those present to continue to network and support one another in order to gradually improve equality.
In Berlin there are currently around 34 female ambassadors from all over the world who head their respective diplomatic missions. Over 20 of them accepted the invitation from the Ambassadors Club and the French ambassador. The series is to be continued regularly.
